RECORDING STUDIO:
CUSTOM DESIGN AND CREATION

Creating a recording studio is the culmination of a dream for any musician, producer, or sound engineer.
Whether you are a professional organization seeking to compete with the world's largest complexes or an artist wishing to transform your personal space into a creative sanctuary, the challenge remains the same: how to achieve perfect sound neutrality without sacrificing aesthetics or ergonomics?

At Red House, we design custom recording studios, building and fitting them out to combine acoustic performance with aesthetic identity.
Each project is conceived as an instrument in its own right: architecture, acoustics, ergonomics, and design come together to create a unique, inspiring, and technically flawless environment.
Our expertise, forged with renowned artists and producers, allows us to transform a creative vision into a workplace perfectly suited to the demands of modern music production.

Let's talk about your recording studio project. Contact us.

WHAT IS A PROFESSIONAL RECORDING STUDIO?

A professional studio is a controlled environment designed to meet two major requirements:soundproofing (not hearing anything from outside and not disturbing the neighborhood) and acoustic treatment (controlling internal reverberation).

A true professional studio is distinguished by:

  • Acoustic neutrality: The ability to listen to a mix without the room adding "color" or frequency distortion.

  • Structural decoupling: The use of techniques such as "box-in-box" to stop solid-state transmissions.

  • Workplace ergonomics: Optimized signal flow, quiet air conditioning, and lighting that promotes concentration during long sessions.

WHY ENTRUST RED HOUSE WITH THE CREATION OF YOUR RECORDING STUDIO?

Acoustic expertise dedicated to professional studios

Red House draws on decades of experience in acoustic engineering. We don't work randomly: each project begins with advanced numerical simulations to predict the behavior of standing waves and resonance modes in your future space.

Mastery of international standards and requirements

We design spaces that meet the most stringent standards (EBU, ITU). Whether your goal is music production, mastering, or immersive mixing (Dolby Atmos), our designs guarantee that your projects will be perfectly translated to the outside world.

A comprehensive approach: acoustics, architecture, design, and workflow

A studio must be beautiful to inspire and functional to produce. Our team includes architects and designers who work hand in hand with acousticians. We think of everything: from managing cables hidden under the floor to integrating diffusers made of fine wood that become true works of art.

HOW DOES RED HOUSE DESIGN A CUSTOM-BUILT RECORDING STUDIO?

1. Preliminary environmental analysis and acoustic study

It all starts with a blank page and a listening ear. We analyze the existing building, environmental background noise, and structural constraints. This study allows us to determine the true potential of your space before laying the first stone.

2. Sound insulation and compliance with regulatory standards

Insulation is the foundation of everything. We install heavy wall systems, floating floors on springs or elastomers, and high-performance suspended ceilings to achieve optimal soundproofing that complies with standards.

4. Technical setup and studio ergonomics

A studio must be "transparent" to the user. We design technical furniture (desks), rack integration, and audio/network cabling so that every tool is within easy reach, facilitating creative flow.

3. High-precision internal acoustic treatment

This is where the magic happens. We adjust the reverberation time linearly across the entire spectrum. Membrane bass traps, Helmholtz resonators, and quadratic diffusers are strategically placed for crystal-clear stereo or multichannel imaging.

5. Design, 3D visualizations, and coordination of work

Before construction begins, you visit your studio. Our photorealistic 3D renderings allow you to approve textures, wood types, and lighting effects. We then oversee the execution of the work to ensure that the final result matches the plans.

WHAT IF YOUR RECORDING STUDIO WAS IN YOUR HOME?

Creation of custom home studios

The modern home studio is no longer a compromise, it's a serious alternative. Red House adapts professional studio technologies to the residential setting. We understand that your home is still your home: we optimize every square inch to transform a bedroom, basement, or garage into a formidable production tool.

Home studio design integrated into your interior

Aesthetics are paramount. We create lifestyle solutions where acoustic treatment becomes a decorative element. Elegant acoustic fabric panels, integrated LED lighting, and minimalist finishes allow the studio to fade into the background when not in use.

Insulation and acoustic treatment for residential home studios

In residential environments, neighborhood management is crucial. We develop lightweight yet effective insulation solutions to prevent low frequencies from spreading through building structures, while correcting acoustic defects often associated with small rooms (natural modes).

Optimizing a home studio in an existing space

Because creativity is no longer limited to large studios, we support musicians, sound engineers, and creators in designing high-performance home studios. Thanks to our expertise, we know how to make the most of limited space. We use hybrid treatment solutions (absorption/diffusion) to virtually enlarge the sound space.

EXAMPLES OF RECORDING STUDIOS BUILT BY RED HOUSE

WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS SAY

Labo -M- | Matthieu Chedid

“With Lucas and the Red House, we went far beyond that dream with the ambition to push the boundaries and create a truly unique place.

It's a place that embodies the very source of music, with mostly analog equipment, and reflects all my great passions for legendary music.

And at the same time, it is a place with incredible acoustics, cutting-edge technology, and above all, filled with symbols hidden in shapes and materials.

That is what makes this place, for me, both deeply poetic and

a source of inspiration … and totally alive”

After Touch | Marine Lavergne

My dream has become a reality.”

Gilles (After Now):

— Lucas, I would like to create the studio of my dreams, but I need some help to make it happen.

Lucas (Red House):

— I'll come down to Toulouse as soon as you've found some available locations. We'll bring everything we need for the acoustic measurements.

Two months later, together, 200 meters from the Zénith in Toulouse.

L: — How do you want to feel when you walk in here?

G: — I want to feel welcome in a warm place, shared by electronic music enthusiasts. I want people to feel safe and free there. The studio has one goal: to create unique moments around what matters most: sound.

L: — OK! So maybe there, you see, we could divide the set into four spaces... A lounge here, a large studio over there...

Twelve months of construction later. Inauguration of the studios.

L: — There you go. You asked for it... You got it!

G: — Thank you, Red House. You guys are geniuses.

WHAT IS THE BUDGET FOR SETTING UP A RECORDING STUDIO?

The budget for a studio apartment depends on three factors: the size, the level of insulation required, and the quality of the finishes.

  • Home Studio (15-30 m2): Work can range from surface acoustic treatment to complete insulation. At Red House, we offer a preliminary study as a flat-rate service available from €1,500 excluding tax.

  • Professional Studio: For a professional studio with a control room, recording booth, and complex technical integration, budgets are tailored to each project. This service is generally charged as a fee of between 12% and 18% of the total cost of the work.
Depending on the type of project, a preliminary study phase is offered starting at €1,500 excluding tax, including acoustic measurements, a measurement report, a project sketch, and a preliminary estimate of the cost of the work.

Investing in a Red House studio is an investment in your assets: it increases the value of your property and ensures the long-term future of your professional activity.

RECORDING STUDIOS: FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Ideally, yes, a dedicated room allows for total control of the sound environment. However, Red House's expertise lies precisely in its ability to adapt. For a home studio, we can design hybrid solutions in living spaces, provided that critical points (windows, doors, resonances) are addressed. For a professional studio, a dedicated room is essential to ensure perfect sound insulation and acoustic treatment that is not limited by domestic furniture.

  • This is the most common confusion, but the two concepts are radically different:

    • Sound insulation (or attenuation): This is used to prevent sound from leaving the room (for the neighbors) and entering it (street noise, ventilation). Dense materials and decoupling principles (mass-spring-mass) are used for this purpose.

    • Acoustic treatment (or correction): This is used to improve the listening quality inside the room. Absorbers, diffusers, and bass traps are used to eliminate echoes and standing waves and balance the frequency response.

  • Adaptation requires rigorous structural analysis. We study the permissible floor load (insulation complexes are heavy), ceiling height (necessary to integrate acoustic plenums), and ventilation. If the building has weaknesses, we create a completely floating "box-in-box" structure, which mechanically separates the studio from the existing building frame to stop solid transmission.

  • The process is generally divided into two phases:

    1. The study and design phase: This includes acoustic analysis, 3D modeling, and the creation of technical plans. (2 to 4 months for a professional studio / between 15 days and 1 month for a home studio)

    2. The construction phase: Depending on the complexity of the project (number of booths, level of insulation), the construction period may vary. A high-end home studio project is generally faster, while a professional complex requires meticulous coordination between the various trades.

  • Our engineers and acousticians travel throughout France to conduct on-site surveys and monitor construction projects. Thanks to our digital modeling tools and remote working processes, we also support international projects, collaborating with local companies or supervising dedicated teams to ensure compliance with our quality standards.
